Heat Wave Happenings

While this heat wave has been great for the electricity providers, people up here are not well prepared.  They don't drink enough water and are suffering from the effects of heat exhaustion and even worse, heat stroke.  Meanwhile, Caroline and I have been doing our outside chores in the early am and then hitting the local swimming hole in the afternoons.  We may be turning into brown prunes, but the spring fed pond keeps us cool.  My gardens don't seem any worse for the heat and are doing surprisingly well; especially the day lilies.

Oh, such lovely shots :) Your garden looks to be holding up a bit better than mine, today has really put a hurting on many of my flowers.

C'mon rain!!!

I really think it's that wonderful mulch; if it hadn't been done this year, I'd have to be replacing withered plants with cactus.

Do you ever cut a bloom and bring it into the house? I saw a demonstration of flower arranging the other day and now I'm gung-ho on that. Ordinary foliage adds a great touch and some of the nicest things are to be found in fields.

Hey you CT Raisin, did you start painting yet? Your yard and flowers look really nice this year.

Thanks Kris. Am I really that wrinkled?

P~I've tried in the past with the Day lilies and they just don't last. They are also very messy and gooey when the blooms fade. But I do cut many my other flowers and make little arrangements although nothing spectacular, just a few blooms in a bud vase.

Beautiful day lilies, Maureen! I just love them. I have quite a few in my garden, but none of the beautiful color varieties that you have. My mother had a small glass vase in the shape of a day lily bloom that was just big enough to hold one bloom. Of course the bloom lasts only a day or so, but it's lovely on the table. Not sure where that vase ended up . . .

Thanks Nan. Do you want any? we could try mailing a couple fans your way and see how they do.
